06 20 2007 - Chris Osimen, 12, smiles as he opens his pair of brand new Nike sneakers, one of 97 pairs given to children at the Forest Hills Recreation Complex on Wednesday afternoon. As part of Mayor Iorio’s Keeping Tampa Fit initiative, which promotes access to physical activity opportunities provided by the Tampa Parks and Recreation Department, the city teamed up with the NIKE, Inc. and the National Recreation and Park Association to supply 2,900 pairs of shoes to young people who are enrolled in Tampa Parks and Recreation summer program. Shoes were be distributed at 39 community centers and parks located throughout the city. Tampa is one of three Florida communities and 21 cities nationwide selected to partner in this program.
