05 06 2007 - Rabbi Uriel Rivkin of Young Israel of Tampa helps Tel Aviv-native Mario Lucio put on the tefillin at Israeli Independence Day festival held Sunday at the Cuban Club in Ybor City. The rabbi's son, Yekutiel, 5, watches while they stand in front of a photograph of Jerusalem's Western Wall. The tefillin consists of two boxes containing Biblical verses that are attached with leather straps to the left arm and head during traditional Jewish prayer. Israeli Independence Day commemorates the declaration that gave birth to the country in 1948, and was celebrated in Tampa with music, children's crafts, a marketplace and folk dancing.
